The architect for this project came to the studio with a design book of images/elements that he wanted incorporated into the restaurant design. He was not aware at the time that some of the images he provided were existing LightBlocks installations. It was a good start, and we partnered with architects Matt Hyatt from Bergmeyer, and Renzo Piano, to design a dramatically simple restaurant using LightBlocks for almost all the elements. In collaboration with Element, a custom metal fabricator, the tables, desks, bar, tapas cases - and even the bathroom sink - were brought to life.
The choice of 'Silk' Light cast for the tables offered dramatic simplicity in the durable, soft light transmitting material with a solid feel. All elements were custom fabricated in our studio.
The sink was a special challenge. Made from alternating opaque and transparent layers of acrylic, we created new bonding techniques to meet the stress of a large sink that passes between the men's and women's restroom. We were pleased to meet the inspiration of the designers with our studio motto of "YES" - and even more pleased with the results. |
